Abstract

Rainfall is the main data in hydrological modelling, but in Indonesia the availability of data is limited, and the range of data is incomplete. This study is aimed to evaluate the use of TRMM satellite data in estimating the water balance of the Selorejo Reservoir with a data range of 1998-2008. The methodology in this research consists of analysis of regional rainfall, correction of satellite rainfall data, simulation of rain runoff models and simulation of water balance. Correction of the TRMM satellite rainfall data shows good result and able to lower the RMSE value 17,47. The result of the rainfall runoff modelling show that the objective function of synthetic discharge TRMM corrected with RMSE value of 1,598, correlation coefficient of 0,685 and NS of 0,95. The largest difference was in Q50 which reached 17,2% but the difference between synthetic discharge from ground station and synthetic discharge from TRMM is less than 0,5 m3/s. Simulation of water balance in Selorejo Reservoir shows the water level of the rain station and TRMM is greater than the observed water level, the decrease water level base on TRMM synthetic discharge occurred almost throughout in 2008. This is influenced by the satellite rainfall in that year which is lower than the recording data from the rain station, beside that the TRMM correction greatly affect the amount of synthetic discharge value.
